According to Icenews McDonald’s closed down in 2009 year after the financial crash in 2008. On October 31st Hejortur Smarason from Reykjavik had heard stories about food from McDonald’s never decaying. He went to McDonald’s for one final burger - not to eat but to conduct a research and keep it and see if it decomposes over time.

For three years burger could be seen in National Museum of Iceland which kept it on a display until recently. After returning the burger to the rightful owner it could not be preserved for much longer, so he offered his friends who run Reykjavik’s Bus Hostel, where it is now on display for guests to view.

The burger was bought more than 1'900 days ago and still hasn't fully decayed. The hotel has set up a live camera so anyone who would like to do it can look at the burger as it decays.
