Akureyri - Gošafoss - Laufįs
Pick up around 10:30 -11:00 - Tour starts at 11:00 AM
From Akureyri we drive across the fjord with a photostop along the way. Then we head on to the Gošafoss (The Waterfall of The Gods), one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. Its name derives from the year 999. or 1000. when the Lawspeaker Žorgeir Ljósvetningagoši made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After his conversion it is said that upon returning from the Alžingi, Žorgeir threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall Godafoss, hence the name.
Before we drive back to Akureyri we will stop at Laufįs museum. The oldest part of the farm was built in 1840 and in the years 1866-1870. The old rectory at Laufas is considered to be the prototype of the Icelandic architecture. Usually, between 20 and 30 people lived at Laufas because many farmhands were needed to reap the benefits of the farm, such as the haymaking, the fishing in the river and the collection of eiderdown along the coastline.
